Surprise family and guests at Thanksgiving and Christmas with fresh boiled peanuts!
Pauly grew up on a barrier island just south of Charleston, South Carolina. As a kid, he'd help his father plant and harvest their annual small patch of green peanuts. The acre they planted each year produced perfect green peanuts for boiling, and after drying, going into the roaster. Pauly's grandfather had many different flavors and seasonings he'd add to his batches of boiled peanuts. These flavors were big hits even with boiled peanut purists who generally only liked traditional southern boiled peanuts. His secret recipes were all handed down to Pauly and he carries on his granddaddy's boiled peanut tradition today. Recently compared to Edamame, and sometimes referred to as Edamamme of the South, hot boiled peanuts have been a popular staple in much of the South for over 150 years!.
Did you know General Lee fed his brothers in the Confederacy boiled peanuts aka "goober peas"? In the Civil War, General Lee's brothers in gray consumed boiled peanuts as a staple of their diet due to the scarcity of other Southern staples.
Boiled peanuts are simply raw peanuts that have been boiled in salted water for a period of time to soften the shells and absord the salty brine. They were easy to prepare and preserve for the troops.
One will find many brands of canned boiled peanuts. They simply are not as good as a fresh boiled peanut as found in the south. Avoid the can and only buy fresh!
Addictive by nature, boiled peanuts are an acquired taste for some, but once hooked, boiled peanuts are a slice of heaven! Lots of times, people eat them outside where you can toss the shells and not worry about the juice dribbling down your face! Boiled peanuts are perfect for gifts, tailgaiting, special family gatherings, sporting events and the like.
A lot of people wonder where to buy fresh boiled peanuts. Fresh boiled peanuts are hard to come by in many locations outside of the South.
Pauly started this business on Edisto Island, South Carolina carrying on his grandfather's boiled peanut recipes, so that buying boiled fresh peanuts is a reality no matter where one resides in the United States.
From Hawaii to Puerto Rico, one can get fresh boiled peanuts shipped directly to them! Pauly's Peanuts ships via affordable priority mail.
Why would one pay twice as much for shipping as the boiled peanuts they order? That's nonsense!
Did you know....An Alabama A&M University food scientist's research has revealed important information about boiled peanuts.
Our beloved boiled peanuts may be as healthy as they are delicious. In an issue of the American Chemical Society's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, AAMU scientists report that boiling the legumes fills them with more antioxidants than roasted peanuts or peanut butter.
Dr. Lloyd Walker and colleagues evaluated the effect of boiling and oil- and dry-roasting on peanuts.
They found that boiled peanuts contained up to four times more isoflavones than raw peanuts or oil- and dry-roasted ones.
Peanuts are usually consumed as processed products, mainly as peanut butter and roasted nuts, according to Michael Bernstein of ACS.
Studies have shown that peanuts contain powerful antioxidants called isoflavones which may reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes and coronary heart diseases.
Although the effect of processing on the isoflavone content of legumes has been extensively studied, there has never been such a study on peanuts, notes ACS.Boiled peanuts are made from green or raw peanuts and are a common treat in the southern United States.
When boiled, they are salted; this doesn t add any calories to the boiled peanuts.
You can usually buy boiled peanuts either shelled or with their shells intact.
One cup of boiled peanuts that have been shelled has 572 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Nutrient Database.
One cup of boiled peanuts with their shells has only 200 calories.
Each cup of peanuts in their shell packs almost 14 grams of fat, for 125 calories. It also has over 13 g of carbohydrates,
for 54 calories, and 8.5 grams of protein, for 36 calories. One cup of shelled peanuts, meanwhile, has 24 grams of protein.
